Light Quality
Ikelite’s proprietary circular flashtube and soft white powder-coated reflector produce a professional-quality light beam ideal for wide-angle underwater photography.
The body is made from a custom-formulated ABS-PC blend, making it inherently corrosion-proof and over 237 g lighter than aluminium-bodied strobes.
The DS160's beam is tuned for optimum spread and colour temperature without requiring a light-reducing diffuser. For even wider coverage, the optional Dome Diffuser (#4069.2) is available and reduces brightness by only half a stop.
Ergonomics
Adjust your settings quickly without losing focus on your subject. The large, click-stop dials offer tactile feedback and are now even easier to use with thick gloves.
A slide lock mechanism prevents the strobe from turning on accidentally while travelling or in storage.
High Performance Power
The DS160 is powered by custom-designed NiMH battery cells, built to deliver consistent high-frame-rate firing from the first shot to the last. These industrial-grade cells outperform alkaline and lithium options, especially under real-world diving conditions involving temperature fluctuations and long-term storage.
While the average lifespan of a battery pack is five years, many divers report using theirs for over a decade.
The quick-attach battery pack uses a secure toggle lock and doesn’t require O-ring lubrication. The DS160 II is compatible with legacy NiMH Battery Packs (#4066.5) and the DS230 Battery Pack (#40066BK).
